Trevor Davies Review of Potato head bar and bistro
I came here for one reason and one reason only.......
I came here for one reason and one reason only....to try the Impossible Burger. It did not disappoint. I was shocked at how close this is to a real burger. To the point that I'd thought they'd sold me real meat. The 'boinginess' of the texture, the resistance of the 'meat' was all there. It had a slight meaty caramelised 'burntess' with the chared areas. The burger looked quite red in the middle(which ordinarily I'm sure would put people off, but in this case, you know there is no meat.
It tasted right, it smelt right, it had a convincing greasyness that really seals the deal. If you had cooked this burger at a home BBQ and handed it to friends, I doubt anyone would raise any questions over this burger. The only time I could tell the taste differed from meat, was when tearing a piece off to East and really smacking my lips hard to bring through the detail of the flavour, then and only then, did I taste a slight difference to a real burger and that was simply around the very feint aftertaste of the Char-grilled flavour.
All in all, if this is a sign of things to come with 'meat-free products, consider meat converted.
Potatoe Head is also a nice casual dining experience, with friendly attentive staff and a good variety of options on the menu. The ideal place for a quick lunch.
