Ralph Gray Review of Chicago South Loop Hotel

My son and I recently spent a night at Chicago South Loop Hotel before he had a conference to attend. We chose the South Loop because of its proximity to Guaranteed Rate Field. The hotel also offered free parking in a secured lot, which in Chicago is a rarity. The room and hotel looked to have been recently remodeled. The room was large and ample space for moving about even with two queen beds. Everything was very clean. The bathroom had an excellent shower and a large soaking tub, which really would be more my wife's liking. For a 3-star hotel, it had nice ample bath towels, but the room coffee maker was not a Keurig. The hotel is just off I90/I94 and easily accessed, although my GPS sent us via I290 to Michigan, then down to East 26th Street, so we had to drive through the heart of Chicago Loop, which was no fun. We considered the room rate to be very reasonable at $169, but there are a few drawbacks. The hotel was not located near (1-2 blocks) any dining or bars. The nearest restaurants was up in Chinatown, about 10 blocks away. The hotel had no restaurant, just a coffee shop for breakfast and lunch. There was a hotel bar, where we watched the Warriors beat Cleveland, but again no food or even snacks. After the ballpark beer prices, the hotel bar seem quite cheap. In summary if you want a hotel on the South side, this one is very nice. But be prepared to either drive or taxi back up to the Loop for entertainment and dining.
