McAfee wants $45 per year for their total package. These fees are free for the first year. The total cost of my Dell Laptop was $972. Lets assume that the computer last 8 years. In the last eight years the S&P 500 averaged an annualized growth rate of 13.89% and is currently giving a 1.74% yield (1.15% yield after taxes). If this trend were to continue, and instead of buying this computer you invested the money and after tax dividends into the S&P 500, you will end up with $5,352 at the end of eight years. That is what this computer has to be worth to a buyer eight years from now. The greed is getting ridiculous.
