Wanda Young Review of Chef Rob
I arrived on a Saturday, restaurant not packed, go...
I arrived on a Saturday, restaurant not packed, got seated quickly, but had to wait for them to clean a table. I saw this place on IG and the Chef on the local news station a while back so I figured I'd give it a try. I thought it had to be good After Chef G.Garvin showed up with his family right after us. After waiting almost 10 minutes for a menu I had to get up to ask for a server to come take our order. This was after Chef Garvin had to do the same thing. I knew I was in trouble if they didn't know who he was! All the employees were under 30... Young melinials with no senior management lighting a fire under their azzez. So they moved super slow. There was no hustle at all. They definitely need a person over 40 to supervise. I watched the servers take food to the wrong table. Then the food runner brought the wrong food to us. They need to use and train on the numbered table system that every other restaurant in the world uses. The Hostess had to take my order as the waiter or waitress never came over the entire meal. A male food runner took the Chefs order and he had no idea what was going on either. Now to the food. The most authentic thing on the menu was a $5 Sorrel drink. They had the nerve to put Thyme in the Collard greens??? Horrible! Then they had a hard piece of turkey? In the greens too. The cabbage my husband had was flavorless & over cooked, the BBQ shrimp was over sauced & over cooked. The chicken was tough. The COCO bread had no Coco... They had the audacity to use Red Kidney beans instead of the traditional Pigeon peas. I ordered another Sorrel drink that never came... $70 later I was ready to go! I am from Brooklyn so I know and cook great West Indian food.. this was not it. Chef Rob never came out from the back. I guess he had the day off... I didn't mention the Hookah bar next to the restaurant that is also part of this restaurant. They needed to keep that space because they restaurant got packed and cramped by the end of my meal. I went there on a whim... But I won't be going again. My fellow New Yorkers!!! ... Stay away... Cook at home it'll be better!
