S. Reza Haidari Review of BBC Channel
To BBC senior editors,
To BBC senior editors,
We are the big community of BBC audience in Afghanistan. Since many years, we have inherited listening to the BBC from our father s generation. Not to be unsaid that today we have so many reliable national and international media outlets that broadcast in our national languages, where we can get our daily feeds from. BBC is one of these reliable outlets. The BBC Afghan editors recent decision to change the name of its official Facebook page to (BBC Dari) is an absolute insult to BBC s Persian-Dari speakers and an approach seen as stirring up ethnic and language divisions in the country. FYI: there is no language as Dari and it is only a Persian dialect. As we do understand the BBC s strict policies don t allow the company to get involved in a country s ethnic dispute, we respectfully ask the channel to refrain from this at a situation of fragility and adversity in Afghanistan. We as responsible audience respectfully ask the senior managers to urgently stop such a provocative approach and respect your millions of audience who speak this language in Afghanistan. Whilst we will wait for the BBC s urgent action, some of the audience have already started unliking your page as a sign of protest. More actions will follow. Please don t let the BBC be seen as attempting to escalate ethnic and language disputes in the country.
Regards
A Persian speaking audience from Afghanistan
