DON T BUY KOLBE WINDOWS !!!

We have aluminum clad wood casement windows from Kolbe and Kolbe! They had a 10-yr warranty and at 13 years we noticed rotting bottom sashes. We found that the bottom half of the window was only HALF finished at production. However, the fact that moisture seeped in and is deteriorating the wood is OUR fault because we didn t inspect them - according to the rep at Kolbe!!! We did maintenance painting on the interior of the sashes over the last 4-5 years but never expected that the bottom had been left unfinished - so they had a place to stamp in the serial number of the window ! Unbelievable! Who would manufacture windows and leave half a sash BARE wood!!!???
They will do nothing to remedy the situation - even though all I asked was for them to cover the cost of having the bottom sash on the 21 windows painted. That seemed a small cost for standing behind their product.
There are other problems as well - poorly fitting screens, cranks that work hard or stop before the window is totally open, latches the grind the wood framing when you lock or unlock the window. These are just not quality and they do NOT stand behind their product. We ll be replacing them with Anderson or Pella and wish we d bought either of those to begin with.
Very dissatisfied!!!
