My son was at this wilderness camp for 10 weeks. Sending him there was the most difficult decision I made in my life. Nevertheless it was the safest place for him to be. It was very difficult for me to have him away. The outcome on the other hand was amazing. Although It did not transform my son into a different person, it helped him tremendously. He was very depressed and mad at home. I did not talk to him for the first 7 weeks during the program, but I knew he was safe. He had the best, humble, knowledgeable therapist and created a bond and respect for him "Steve Debois" . My son still talks about him and has respect for him. He learned to push himself and be successful at the wilderness camp. He learned to make a fire with a bow and a drill and was successful in hiking. I had the opportunity to visit him at the camp and stay overnight. I had the most amazing experience there. The therapists are amazing and keep kids safe. Group therapy is ta great component of wilderness therapy. You see some healing there. My son learned some of the communication skills to help him with anger and depression. I learned a lot from the audio-casts and the books they recommend. The kids who were in the group with my son were all great kids. When you are there visiting, you sense a family togetherness. I am a nurse and I wish I was younger and had chosen to be a therapist. If that was the case I would choose to work as a therapist in Second Nature.
