This place is awesome. I've watched many races here on the tv, but nothing is quite like stopping by. Yesterday I was coming back from Austin from visiting my sister, and saw the sign on the highway. I thought it would be a quick fun detour just to see the facility and get back on the road. Little did I know o was in for the best day I've had all year. The security guard at the main entrance was friendly and told me what was going on. It was a track day/practice session for a NASA (not the space one) race series, and he said go check it out. And it was free to walk around the pits! I know this wouldn't happen on a regular race day, but it was awesome. The staff and the marshals were all super friendly, and willing to answer any questions you may have. The drivers were all cool too! They loves talking about there cars to anyone who would listen. It was awesome to stand in the pit lanes and hear the cars flying past the straight. And the best part, I'd when they announced the parade lap (and it was free too)! They let all spectators take a spin on the track behind the safety car to get a glimpse of what the track was like! Best experience ever! You can't appreciate the complexity of the track from photos on the internet, or watching it on TV. You have to go and see it in person if your a race fan, and in the area. It doesn't have to be a special event like a F1 race just to visit, although I bet that is amazing to see. I WILL be back for a major event, like F1 and/or MotoGP. They even have awesome looking RV parking right next to the track! I may do that when I go so I can experience everything. on my way out, the same security guard I saw when I entered was still there, he flagged me down, and wanted to know if I had a good time. I could barely put into words my experience. I thanked him for giving me the info, and headed back to Houston. If you have made it this far, all I am saying is....VISIT THIS AWESOME PLACE!
