Andrea Lee Review of Stowe Mountain Lodge

My first time at the resort and mountain with my family of 4. Geography is lovely, but resort and village did not meet my expectation for the pricey 5-star stay. The controller for the fireplace was out of batteries so the fireplace did not shut off for 24h; woodwork in room was beat up; used filter and wet coffee in the maker. Coffee/hot drinks/water were only available in main common area for a few hours during day (lower ranked Hampton Inn has at least free coffee and water 24/7), despite the fact that most skiers want to come in for beverages throughout day, btw runs. Since all of the restaurants (except a small coffee shop), stores, rink, recreational facilities were closed (a fact we were not made aware), food/drink options were v. limited. Outdoor pool is nice but needs better lighting for night swimming so you can keep track of your family members (esp little kids). Valet service and other common areas were v.nice, but the best direct walk-in/walk out access is reserved for private clubs guests, requiring regular hotel guests to schlep, fully dressed, carrying their equipment a good couple tenths of a mile (not easy if you have little kids) to Adventure triple. Car valet, cleaning staff and ski school teachers were FANTASTIC. Front desk staff were nice, but kind of aloof and generally had to refer out Qs bc they didn't have answers. Given the reduced amenities, we felt resort should have offered significantly discounted rates.
