These guys just left my house and I hate that I even called them. I have my septic tank cleaned every three years and instead of calling the guys I used the last couple of times, I called RooterPlus! because of the price special that popped up when I was trying to find the name of the guys from last time. I made the appointment a week ago and RooterPlus! called me first thing this morning to say they'd be here in 30-40 minutes. They showed up almost 2 hours later. When I told the tech I just needed a cleaning, he immediately put a bad taste in my mouth when he said something about how tank problems have a way of sneaking up on you. As soon as he dug the cover off, he called me out and asked how much I knew about septic systems. I knew right then I was about to get hosed so I listened to a few minutes of doom and gloom and then I came inside and, for the first time, looked up the company. In hindsight, I should've done that from the beginning but thank God I did it at all. A few minutes later he called me back out and started talking about how I had major problems. His options were to put in a new drainfield for 7k, but he didn't see that happening because the county probably wouldn't give me a permit because they'd want me to hook up to the sewer lines for 11k (we don't have working sewers out here but he thought we did because the developers put in manholes in case we eventually get them). Then he offered to do the unclogging with a chemical for $250. How the heck do you go from 11000 dollars to 250. I told him to finish the cleaning I'd called him for and leave. When he gave me the bill, I saw he'd put an estimate on it for $2700, and it included the chemical cleaner, which is proof positive he knew the $250 he had just quoted was only a starting point. Now I'm in the process of getting someone else out here to see if this guy was on the level or was just trying to shovel some of what he cleans down my throat. When I find out, I'll be sure to come back and post an update.
