The Cafe Royal is, to me, exactly what an Edinburgh pub should be. Historical surroundings, understated elegance, great food and drinks, and friendly service - what more could you want? The impressive Victorian decor and big circular bar provide the perfect setting for a few pints, and both the bar and restaurant menus are worth checking out too. The Cafe Royal specialises in oysters and mussels, but the rest of their menu is just as good; definitely a cut above your average "pub grub".
