The first stop of my vacation was at Ohana Farm Orchards and, boy, what a way to start! John and Renn were such gracious and hospitable hosts. The word 'comprehensive' comes to mind when describing my experience. John gave us a short intro to the farm's history before taking us through his production line. It was very interactive and he let us taste his organically grown macadamia nuts pre- and post-dehydration. Then, the 5 of us piled into his John Deere and we went on a super fun tour of his farm! John is saturated with knowledge about his vegetation, trees, insects, and animals, so remember to bring your notebook :) And the fun didn't stop there, no sir. Surprise, they make some of best ice cream you'll have on the island! We tried just about every flavor they have (the seared pineapple was my favorite). And after all that ice cream filled our bellies, John continued the gastro-gauntlet by giving us samples of his macadamia nuts, finished with exciting flavors such as garlicky habanero and dill pickle. What more can I say except John and Renn blew us away from beginning to end. The tour helped me and the family appreciate all the hard work that goes into self-sustained farming. Visit Ohana Farm Orchards asap, they are good people making some honest, tasty food.
