I made an appointment to test drive a used Sonata last week. We drove up to McHenry from Naperville to check out the car. Everything looked good, and we went inside to discuss the price. We agreed on a price, I signed a sheet of paper with that price, and the salesman went to run it by his manager. After about 15 minutes, he came back to say we were in a "sticky situation" because another buyer has now suddenly placed a down payment on the car and agreed to a higher price. We knew there was a later appointment that day to see the car so we suspect they called this person to say the car was about to be sold and asked if they would pay the sticker price. If this is the case, then selling a car from under a potential customer is a very shady way to conduct business. I understand why it would be done from a financial reason, but very poor job from a customer relations perspective. I highly doubt we'll be considering any future purchase from this auto group. We've told others, and we'll be continuing to tell others, about our negative experience.
