Firstly, I want to genuinely THANK a chap called Nathan who was extremely helpful. The reason this review isn't about his service is because I've noticed another review thanking, presumably, the same guy.
This review reflects the awful leadership seen by a senior staff member. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name but she was short, slightly stumpy, blonde hair and 50+ I believe. *EDIT: Her name is Sally*. She seemed to be a senior member of staff / management, being the way she spoke to Nathan. Nathan was extremely helpful on the shop floor and helped me directly after helping another customer. He had all the qualities that a customer, like myself, absolutely appreciates.
After he helped me the blonde lady in question had a little moan at Nathan about not being around, or in her eyes, not doing his job (stacking shelves). In my eyes, he was doing his job precisely. Nathan politely replied "Sorry, I was on my lunch break". To which she said something as she walked off. For one, she should not be talking like that to another member of staff, let alone in front of customers. I let her walk away and went to find Nathan again, and I asked if she just had a pop at him? He was professional enough not to criticise this lady and I told Nathan he was the reason customers like me come back into the store and I really appreciated, not only his help, but the way in which he engaged with the customer. I was so annoyed that this lady, possibly at a senior level, has neglected the fact that it's not her sole purpose to look after the customer, but instead look after her subordinates to make their working environment conformable.
I wouldn't normally but I went to find this lady to let her know what a great job Nathan did for me and the customer prior. She had a face like thunder and said she was being sarcastic, to which another staff member said "What you, sarcastic? Never". She made another sarcastic comment under her breath and without looking at me. I told her what I told Nathan, about the reason customers come back to the store is for people like him. Opposite to that I also said if I ran into her in store, I'd have ran straight back out. She continued to look anywhere but at me and simply said "Okay". Terrible service and not fulfilling what I expect the senior management at B&Q would want on their shop floor. She was a stereotypical worker who seems to dictate instead of lead, influence and inspire. In my opinion, she needs training in order to do her job properly because I can't imagine she's particularly nice to be around in the work environment.
I'll leave this review on a happy note -
5* Nathan Thank you.
