Use a lawyer, right from the beginning. These guys did a good job. I got my full disability, though it took a couple of years and went to the hearing level. They made the hearing easy. Things weren't perfect, but it sure was nice having them in charge. Be sure to double check the dates on everything - they had to keep correcting an error on Social Security's part. They really do get their payment from any back pay from Social Security Disability before you get your back pay, but it is NEVER over the $6,000.00. You will not pay anything else and nothing up front at all. They really put in time on my case, and I had a good chunk of back pay coming, and I still got most of it. Oh, and getting to my hearing was supposed to take up to a year more than it actually did, so don't give up, but no promises when it comes to government timing.
