I am very disappointed in my experience with Coats...

I am very disappointed in my experience with Coats & Todd. I read so many wonderful reviews too.

I find myself suddenly VERY ill. My story is much like many others. With the lose of my health came the lose of a job, health insurance, all of my 401K, a car, and now I face bankruptcy, and/or the lose of my home. I need help with finding healthcare assistance, understanding what disability or SSI benefits are even available to me, and so much more. I called Coats & Todd, they had an "intake specialist" take down my information. (including 15 years of work history that I gathered for them) After, an hour on the phone I felt they would be helping me understand what to do next. I was told someone would call me within 48 hours. My entire well-being at this time to wait for this phone call.

They did not return my call. I planned to call them first thing Monday. I get my mail, there is a letter stating they can not help me because I do not have ongoing medical care. I TOLD THEM I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO GET THE HEALTH CARE ASSISTANCE. I told the "intake specialist" that I needed their help to understand what is available to me. I was assured they would be "here to help." I was also assured a phone call in 48 hours. Instead I get a very wordy letter stating they can't help me right now.

I can not even begin to explain how hopeless I felt when I read that letter. I immediately threw up. (Note: throwing up is very very bad for my condition) I need to see a specialist that without insurance I can not afford.(obama care in the state of TX does not help the unfortunate) I knew nothing about Medicare, or Medicaid. I have worked all my life, even when I was diagnosed with other conditions. I did call to ask why they didn't just tell me over the phone when I initially called that I needed to take other steps before I can apply for benefits. I explained I felt that if I had this information explained to me initially than, I would have had that time that I had spend waiting on a phone call to do those things. It is so very important that this move as quickly as possible. As an SSI attorney's office you'd think they would know this. So, now they have also wasted my time. Time is not something I have much of right now.
It was explained to me more than once that the person I was talking to was an "intake specialist" and they didn't have that information. I could leave a message for a case worker if I wanted to. I said "please I really need to speak with a person". she was kind however, the answer was still you can leave a message. At this point, you don't want my business. You don't want to help me. I was then Done. I need to feel like my attorney's care. I felt like just a #. I felt like I wasn't important to them, or worth their time to help.

Naturally, I called a different attorney's office. Where I talked to a "legal assistant" this person gave me the information I needed to know about healthcare assistance, let me know that I have to apply for SSI before anything else can begin. They are going to overnight me a packet of information with step by step info. I got so much information from a 30 min call! I learned so much, I feel there was absolutely no reason the person who "takes information" at Coats & Todd couldn't have told me the same information. If that person has to be a "legal assistant" then hire legal assistance's that is your business for crying loud. I don't want to talk to a "message taker" when I call a lawfirm.

This is a money hungry office, I have been in the work field long enough to know this. Careful if you choose to call them. It is highly likely they will waste your time. When you're dying you take a waste of time pretty hard!
