My advice for anyone, considering opening an account or trust at Trust Point, is to compare to other financial firms in the area. Trust Point charges a 1% management fee, however, Trust Point's other fees, IMO, are exorbitant. For example, Trust Point charges $850 to prepare trust tax returns.
The contact point person, "relationship manager," is rarely available by phone and typically returns emails days later. There is little communication regarding one's personal investment preferences or situation. Therefore their investment strategies are not necessarily based on a client's best interest. A number of years, I had to pay capital gains taxes on shares sold within my account during the same tax years that this agency account actually lost value. Accounts at Trust Point perform poorly even when the market is doing well. Once an account holder has had enough and would like to transfer an account (in kind) to another investment firm, Trust Point charges a $575 transfer fee! Again compare to other investment firms. Should you still choose Trust Point, I advise that you request, and obtain, a written contract of ALL fees Trust Point will charge to manage your accounts or trusts.
TrustPoint's fees are real and excessive.
