I think you really have to weigh the good with the bad here. Are you going to be swamped with work and at times stressed to the max? Absolutely. Taft academics are tough, rigorous, and time consuming. The education is absolutely priceless and puts you well ahead of the curve when you enter college. Really it is the fantastic community that keeps everyone sane. The "all-in-this-together" sense of camaraderie creates an extremely tight-knit community. It certainly isn't for everyone, but it will definitely give you back what you put into it.
Are you going to run into the occasional spoiled rotten rich kid? Sure, but for every spoiled brat are five fantastic, intelligent, kind, and insightful students. Give the school a chance and don't get too caught up with preconceived notions of what a prep school is and you will find a thriving community.
My only irk is that the LGBT community here is looking a bit sparse. Being one of the only openly gay kids is a bit isolating, but the school appears to be getting better. I never faced any harassment for my sexuality, and the students were all very respectful.
Taft is a lifestyle; some thrive in it, others crack under the pressure. Can you take the heat?
