At first, a big disappointment ... the museum is located in the building of the City Library. We get the impression that we are about to see a small exhibition concentrated in one room. Narvik is an important city for us Poles in Norway, referring to the heroic struggle of Polish soldiers in its defense.
After entering, however, we are pleasantly surprised ... a modern segment was added to the library building, constituting an extension of the museum. The museum exhibition is interesting, combined with interactive elements. We will also find some Polish elements: the uniform of the Podhale Riflemen, plaques with decorations (so far the plaque is under construction and there are no Polish decorations) and a bell which is a gift from ORP Grom. A museum worth recommending. Visiting about 2 hours, unless someone is particularly interested in the subject of war, they will probably spend more time there.
Parking: Underground parking next to the museum. And 5 minutes from the museum on foot, on Verkstedbakken street, two paid parking lots: one for campers and the other for cars in front of it.
In Narvik and its vicinity we can find 4 other places dedicated to the memory of fallen Polish officers and soldiers:
The first grave of Poles who died in the fight for Narvik (first alley on the right, entering through the German cemetery through the side entrance from the parking lot). Address: Rombaksveien 44, 8517 Narvik. There is a small free car park in front of the cemetery.
Groms plass in Narvik (Monument to the sailors of the Volunteer Fire Department GROM). Address: Ibsensvei 16, 8517 Narvik
Krigsmonument, Narvik 1940 (on the E6 road, 16 km south of Narvik). Address: Grindjord 36, 8520 Ankenesstrand. There is a large free car park in front of the monument.
