What can I say about my university days in Edmonto...

What can I say about my university days in Edmonton, the capitol city of Alberta?

Arriving Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from Hong Kong, I knew nothing about this city and place, except that I had been accepted by a school called Alberta Collage. Air Canada was on strike while I had to take a flight from Hong Kong to Taipei to San Francisco to Vancouver and then finally arriving Edmonton, all on waiting list. I lost my luggage during the hectic transit, and I knew nobody in Edmonton.

Yet those were the worst time, it turned out to be one the best time of my life. I got admitted to University of Alberta, and spent the next 5 years in the campus.

It was so wonderful! I met a lot of different students and people from all over all the world! I never heard about them but then I knew that there was the Ukrainian community, which is a big one in Edmonton. I also started to watch Canadian football, when Eskimos were one of the strongest team in the CFL. Then of course, there was the Edmonton OIlers, where hockey is being played on ice! The Oilers were the talk of the town, and with players like Gretzky, Messier, Anderson, Kurri, Coffey, Lowe when they became part of my University life, watching every games whenever possible on TV. I even got a chance to attend a Stanley Cup playoff game between the Oilers and their biggest rivalry Calgary Flames to make up what was known as the "Battle of Alberta" . Also, I was living in HUB, studying at the Rutherford Library, doing computer programs in Tory Building, and finishing at 4 AM, walking back to HUB at 40 below freezing temperature. I also got the opportunity to become a DJ in the campus multicultural radio station. All because of this wonderful University.

Thank you for the memory and wish UofA (and their Golden Bears team) well and continue to become the best of University in Canada and in the world!
