Rick D Review of Gordon Ramsay at the London NY...
To sum it up, Gordon Ramsey would have fired almos...
To sum it up, Gordon Ramsey would have fired almost everyone working there that night.
How it went?
We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation time yet they were accommodating enough, and sat us at our table. The restaurant had a good ambiance, good lighting and was full enough.
The waiter came over and asked weather we liked flat or sparkling water. We indicated that we prefer flat and he brought over the bottle. He then took my wife's drink order and walked away without addressing my drink request. Now, I am only assuming here, I thought that he got upset because she didn't order an alcoholic drink (Although they charge $5.50 for pop) and walked away. I on the other hand do enjoy a beverage and only got my order in once he came back to take our food order.
We then apparently threw fuel on the fire because we decided to share an appetizer (which was their tuna tartare. It was very good!) and had a couple questions about their menu. I was now clearly being a nuisance. My clearly offensive question was "Which is more popular, the chicken confit or the bouillabaisse?" He indicated that the bouillabaisse was better, therefore that is what I ordered.
My glass went empty during the appetizer and I had to wait until he came to clear the plate. I asked him for another glass and he gave his smirk to me and nodded yes. He went back to the station, which I thought was to punch in my drink order, yet it turns out that it was to chat/joke with the manager and another server. I now started asking my wife if he might have been upset that I was wearing jeans with my dress shirt and sport coat (we checked on the site for the dress code before our trip). Yet we looked around and saw a few others that were also wearing jeans. After they were done laughing at the station, roughly 10 minutes, he looked over, made eye contact with me and then punched something in, and went over to the bar to get my wine.
Our dinner plates came over by a couple of gentlemen that were very pleasant actually and began our dishes. Even if we had this difficult waiter, the app was great therefore our dinners could only be as good and we were looking forward to our dinners.
My wife had the risotto which was good yet my Bouillabaisse was uneatable. It looked good yet the shellfish was smelly and tough to chew. I waited for our waiter to check up on us to indicate that there was a problem yet he was nowhere to be found.
We saw the manager checking on other tables yet we weren't fortunate enough.
When our waiter finally came to clear the table, he noticed that I barely touched my plate and told he could prepare another one for me. He was surprised that I didn't want to eat alone the way my wife had just done.
He asked if we wanted desert and I replied "No, no no, absolutely not. Just the cheque" It was a reactionary response to my dinner yet I did feel bad because our neighboring table heard me. I thought afterwards that he had a lot of nerve asking this.
The waiter indicated that he removed my meal and handed me the bill. I was then a little disappointing that he charged us $10 for the water as well. I still gave him a tip, but closer to 10% than what I usually give.
I have found some of the best service I have ever had has been in NYC. This place has missed the target in an incredible way. Now, my expectations were high going into to this place, yet I was shocked and upset when we got the impression that we were ridiculed with bad service.
Our waiters name was Ifjal. If ever you go here, I would request to not be seated in his section.
