Rachel Ramshaw Review of Five Acres Animal Shelter

My husband and I have visited here several times to see if there are any dogs that we feel drawn to adopt. The kennels have always been in pristine conditions and I love the outdoor facilities as well. On one visit we were interested in one little pit girl and wanted to fill out an application. We filled out the paperwork and I enjoyed my experience with our handler who said that she really liked us and would put in a good word for us. However when we were at the front desk to drop off the paper work and discuss further steps of coming back and bringing our current dog for a meet and greet, the older receptionist looked down her nose and said, "You'll only becoming back here *if* you even pass the application process." This comment came out very rudely and I was shocked at her tone towards me. Maybe she was having a bad day, but when you work at an animal shelter and someone is interested in adopting a pet from you, I would think that you would be just a *little* more courteous????? We did come back for the meet and greet which ended with the dogs not getting along as well as we'd hoped. While we were there one of the handlers dropped a comment about my dog's appearance. She's a long haired rough collie, and I admit she was a bit mussy, but as anyone with a long haired dog will tell you, that's just part of their charm. ;) However I felt that because my dog was not decked out to the nines she doubted my ability to take care of any animal. My husband and I were very disappointed in their treatment of us, and we hope that the staff becomes more welcoming to potential adopters, as we would still love to adopt from this shelter in the future!
