Review of Genesis Centre

For the last few months I have been going to the Genesis Centre 4-5 times a week. I use the gym and the pool. The place is pretty clean. The staff are super welcoming and helpful. I have had contact with staff in drop in classes, fitness trainers, staff at the front desk, via Facebook, and the lifeguards in the pool. They are wonderful.

The fitness gym has a lot of machines and a ton of treadmills and other cardio machines. The pool is a decent size. The change room is wonderful with a ton of lockers and seating and changing rooms and showers. I also love the bathing suit dryers.

My only issue would be the lack of rules or enforcing the rules. Sometimes it can get very rowdy in the pool and it takes a lot to get it calmed down. I witnessed a boy who kept putting a float device at the edge of the pool and then running onto it. He did it about 5-6 times before a lifeguard went over to ask him to stop. He continued to do it after she walked away and she noticeably would turn her head away when he was doing it. Because kids are allowed in the pool area at the age of 8 by themselves I feel they need to be slightly more strict on safety in the pool. Another example... they set up swim lanes for I would assume laps but there are often kids playing in these lanes so if you want to swim laps you cannot. It would make more sense to open up more of the pool for swimming and then keep the lanes for lane swimming. Kids also get into the hot tub and splash or stick their heads under water which is also unsafe. I also wonder if children are being allowed in the fitness gym who are too young to be there.

I also wish they would run more drop in classes in the evenings and weekend. The majority of classes run week day mornings which is impossible as I work. This is not the only centre that does this.
