For the past eight years I have taken overseas guests for lunch on the terrace. On arriving for lunch on the 4th of January, imagine our disappointment when being told we could not sit on the outside terrace because we were eating from the a la carte menu and outside was reserved only for the buffet customers. This was according to 'new rules' from management although the outside area was basically empty. We then decided to eat elsewhere as we wanted to enjoy the warm weather so they lost out on serving us and 4 loyal patrons who have visited there many years and will not return. A simple decision to allow us to eat on the patio, despite new rules, would have avoided the this turn of events. Life is not always black and white and rules can be bent to the benefit of everyone. Had the area been fully booked we would have understood but it would have made no difference if we sat inside or outside. I hope in future some form of discretion and reasonableness can be applied when making these decisions.
