I have been an EMT for almost 20 years. My family has had a history of CVAs, in two cases, killing both of my parents. Anyway, yesterday I started to get the signs & symptoms of a stroke. (I've had several episodes before, I am in my mid50's, do NOT smoke, do NOT drink, and do NOT do any drugs. After the doctor concluded that "there's nothing wrong with you", I was shown the door. When I asked to be held overnight for observation, the nurse in charge was BELLIGERENT when I ask that the doctor discuss this with me. "He has other patients to tend to." (As well as a few other things, under her breath.)She made it very clear that I had to move on. When I expressed my concerns, she said "there's another hospital in town, ya know." When I said that I wouldn't sign the discharge papers, she said that she was going to put me down as "AMA". Against medical advice". I did HAVE to go to that "other" hospital last night, and here I lay, under a close watch by PROFESSIONALS.
