Selfridges is a 'must visit' shopping destination, especially tourists looking for proof that London is the crown jewel of world retail. I've been to a lot of the high brow department stores around the world, and Selfridges is the one that ranks most highly in my opinion. Even beating the likes of Bloomingdales and Henri Bendell in New York. The only place possibly beating Selfridges is Liberty in Soho, but you can easily visit both in one day and decide for yourself.

Technology is in the basement, and homewares are up on top. You'll also find a huge food hall, with an amazing international selection of pretty much anything (for a price). There's even a cinema.

Avoid this place in December at the weekends as it becomes a heaving mass of Christmas shoppers with no sense of direction or manners. Instead, go during a weekday in the Spring.
