Class of 2012 here. Hofstra was a miserable place when I was a student there, and they basically set me up for financial ruin. First, keep in mind that in 2017, Hofstra, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization, brought in more than a half a BILLION dollars in revenue, according to their Form 990. They pay their president a million-dollar salary plus perks while horribly abusing the actual educators. Also, he's unreachable because his office is atop a golden elevator that's guarded at all times. #Education
Hofstra misrepresented my financial aid package every semester I was there, and when I graduated I had twice the debt I was told I'd have. By the time I finish paying, I'll have spent almost $200,000 on my degree. And let me assure you, the jobs ain't paying that much.
Speaking of jobs, when I called the career services office for help because my current job's at a dead-end and I'm having trouble finding a new one in my field, the office refused to speak to me unless I paid them. They won't offer their alums career services, but they're SUPER quick to send me donation requests. Because a half a billion is just not covering it I guess (and the half billion isn't counting the $35 million they got in donations last year, before you @ me).
Honestly, go to a state school. Farmingdale State is 15 minutes from Hofstra and you can get a 4-year degree there for the cost of 1 year at Hofstra. Whatever positive academic experience I had has been completely overshadowed by the fraud and nonsense this place pulled. Don't ruin your future. Stay away from Hofstra.
