6:15PM I went to Eastside Market today to pick up a few things to make for my friend's 60th birthday. I was limited for time. I stood in front of the bakery for over 5 minutes waiting for someone to take my order. There was no one behind the counter but there were several employees working behind the deli counter right next to where I was. I walked over and asked for help and was told they were unable to help me. One of them explained that since Stop & Shop took over the market they were no longer to be cross-trained in departments and it was against regulations to assist me. I then asked several times if they could at least call for someone that could help me. Then, after time continues to pass and no one arrives, I ask for the manager. He eventually comes over and I explain that I have been waiting for over ten minutes now to purchase a cupcake from behind the counter. He did NOT apologize but instead responded with "She is on her break." There was also mention of this being a "union". I had to walk out because I was so disgusted. I am also in a union because of my profession. I work hard because I am dedicated to my practice. It is so gross to use "union" as justification to not care. Tom, the manager that I was told was working tonight, is why I will no longer be shopping at East Side Market or Stop & Shop.
