I'm flying out of FLL now for the third time in the past two years. I'm stuck here for another eight hours and am thoroughly unimpressed. For an airport which waxes about its commitment to customer satisfaction and glows about increasing footfall, I find myself pining for LaGuardia.
Over-crowded, practically no charging ports, bad seating, and extortionately priced food. I don't like eating at chains, as a general rule, but part of what makes them appealing in airports is consistency - you know what you're getting and whah quantity, no matter which Dunkin Donuts or McDonald's you're at, anywhere.
All FLL has is a scarce handful of bizarre eateries with names reminiscent of the a la carte options at my old high school. The prices are a delight, too - $10 for a box salad, $7 for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, or $9 for a no-name outlet's microwave burrito.
If FLL wants to brag about becoming a national hub, it needs to reform its magnificently outdated facility. Put in some more damn outlets and institute the price governor schemes which better airports have put into effect, which prevent restaurants from charging patrons two or three times an ordinary amount.
