WARNING. DO NOT WELCOME THESE PEOPLE INTO YOUR HOME. DO NOT SIGN ANY PAPERS THEY OFFER YOU.
Yesterday afternoon will have been the second time that we've had a door-to-door sales rep from Summitt Energy visit trying to persuade us to sign papers.
The first time was a woman, who, to her credit, was in professional clothing, but nothing with logos or badges indicating who she represented. After lying to me about representing a company "part of the government," she asked to see my paper bill to check if I qualified for a discount on my energy bill. I asked her SEVERAL times what company she was with, as I wasn't just going to hand over any personal information without knowing. She evaded the question every time by asserting that she just wanted to check if we were eligible for this discount. I ended up getting curt with her because she was not answering my question, and was not forthcoming about anything I needed to know. I told her that I don't get paper bills, and I get all of my billing via email. What did she suggest, but to SEE my digital bills, in my inbox, ON MY CELLPHONE. Are you kidding me? Yes, that makes perfect sense... I'm going to hand my cellphone with my email open over to a complete stranger so she can look at my energy bill. So I flat out told her no, and sent her on her way.
Yesterday, my husband was home alone and received TWO more visitors from Summit. Two young twenty-somethings dressed in their street clothes, grubby, unkempt, unshaven, completely unmarked and unrepresentative of any company they might work for, except for a business card (Rep. No.: BL 2043 / Rep. Name: Chris C). They went through the spiel to try and get our billing information, but my husband explained that I took care of the bills and I was currently not home. They pressed on and on, with my dog barking at their intrusion in the background. When my husband had had enough, he again told them NO.
But here's the kicker... before they left, they asked to "bum a smoke" off of him. Seriously?! We later saw them footing it around town, looking as unprofessional and dirty as ever, likely trying their luck with many of our neighbours.
Summitt Energy, get your grimy "sales reps" off our front porches and off our streets.
