Donald Skidmore Review of The Ritz Carlton, Pentagon Cit...

I can't tell you how much of a disappointment this hotel has been. I have been a very long Marriott customer and I can't remember being let down by one of their properties as much as this one. First of all I travel on business so I am constrained by clients on what I can spend per night on lodging. The Ritz Carlton brand is usually out of my price range so I was pleasantly surprised on the rate I got here. As soon as I checked in the problems began. In the room there is a welcoming letter except it had someone else name. I called the front desk to ask if they put me into the wrong room. They indicated no it was the correct room and so I mentioned the welcoming letter with some other person's name. They said it was in error and they would send me up the correct letter. Now I didn't care except I didn't want some stranger walking into my room. They sent up the letter all it has is my name and room rate. The letter in my room was hand written welcoming this person and if there is anything the staff can do please don't hesitate to call. I get a call 10 mins later saying did I receive the new letter and they would be giving me 2000 bonus points for the mistake. They asked me for my rewards number and I gave it to them. They thanked me and said as a silver member we hope you enjoy your stay. I said I am not a silver member but a platinum member are you sure you have the correct person. I started to charge up all my electronics in some "charger port" that didn't work prompting me to call down again. They said they will send someone up to replace it. I am writing this a 12:30am and nary a service man has crossed my door. I have my electronics scattered across the room connected to any vacant outlet I could find including the bathroom, "note to management more outlets please". Next I turn on the TV and half the channels are either fuzzy or make a buzzing sound that's ok I usually watch movies or read books on my iPad. I connected it to their internet. For the first time I get a message on the iPad saying my internet connection is too slow for video. I have stayed at Best Westerns with better internet then this. Forget about working late on my laptop. Around 11PM I called the front desk to see if they have a overnight shoeshine service like other Marriott brands. I let the phone ring about a dozen times with no one picking up. When I first checked in I asked if they have a club lounge like other of Marroitt hotels. Yes they do but it is $100/day. That has to be some lounge for them to charge that much. I certainly can't expense it. But my curiousity has been piqued and I am going to try it tomorrow where I am sure based on my current experience I will be severly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I have been a very happy customer with Marroitt for over 30 years but when one of their premier brands is so under whelming and to be so business unfriendly I just had to speak up. Luckily I didn't have any pressing work deadline requiring me to complete tonight. A fast internet is absolutely essential in today's business environment. I can't wait for what tomorrow will bring!
