Jen Cross Review of Natura Artis Magistra

This was by far my favourite place in Amsterdam!!! All the animals had large open spaces with shade, water, privacy and they all looked well loved and taken care of. The information plaques located by each enclosure were informative and written in multiple languages. My 7 year old loved all the facts about the animals!
The zoo was really easy to find, we came by tram and there were a lot of shops and cafes in the area. The zoo was practically across the street from the tram stop!!
We found the zoo to be well layed out with easy to follow signs and we didn't feel like we missed anything! There were plenty of spots to rest and an array of climbing apparatus which were good for the kids!
We weren't expecting it to be so close up in areas, that made the trip even more Amazing, for example: The area with the seals had an underground tunnel with windows to see them swimming round and with interactive screens, there was an enclosure to walk through where there were bat's, lizards and very tiny monkeys all roaming around in the same room and the butterfly enclosure was brilliant as they all fly around you. These features made for a really memorable experience. And the petting zoo was again a really great and unexpected feature with pigs, goats, horses and chickens, we probably spent the most time here as the animals were so tame and friendly which my son really enjoyed.
As to be expected there are long hot queues at the entrance and around some of the enclosures. And the prices in the cafe and gift shop are shockingly high - hopefully at the benefit of the animals!
I would honestly recommend Artis Zoo to anyone of any age.
