keanu carson Review of Red's Old 395
Don't trust the negative reviews!
Don't trust the negative reviews!
Now let me start this off by saying I only just recently moved into the area 6 months ago. Some of the negative reviews I've seen, where the major complaint was the service, date back to between 2 and 4 years ago. It wouldn't surprise me if Red's, being a pretty large sized restaurant, had some trouble getting its footing when they first opened up in terms of reliable new-hires and enough staff to meet the needs of all the customers. However as of now in the summer of 2016 I will say with confidence that this isn't an issue at all any more, barring some weird human errors that will inevitable happen at any establishment from time to time. Of course if you come to dine during prime hours you can expect a bit longer of a wait, but no more so than any other restaurant.
Now, for the reviews complaining of the quality of the food, I must denounce them as pure blasphemy. Before moving here I was a Kansas City native for 6 years, and in that time frame enjoyed all the BBQ KC is known to offer, from the popular Gate's to the little hole in the wall restaurants that always prove to be worth the detour. With these memories still fresh in my mind, I will say without a doubt that I believe Red's offers BBQ on par or even better than ANY I've ever had in KC!
While BBQ seems to be Red's "bread and butter" so to speak, if that doesn't suit your fancy or you're just in the mood for something different they offer a wide array of different dishes that are also high quality. As if this wasn't enough to seal the deal, it should be noted that you always get what you pay for in terms of portion sizes, something that has become a lost art in American dining in the decade or so. Also, if you're a lover of beer like I am, you will always leave satisfied in that department thanks to their remarkable selection of 101 different beers, ranging from bottled craft to a large selection of drafts in every beer category there is.
These reviews I see here claiming Red's dishes to be low quality or 'reheated' as per what you would find in a chain like Applebees or Olive Garden, I dismiss them as lies and slander, plain and simple. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Red's local competitors recruited people to write these negative reviews, which unfortunately nowadays has become a standard practice.
Come to Red's with your friends or family, stay a while to enjoy your generous portions and drink selections, and rest assured knowing it was money well spent!
