This hotel is very much in a dreamlike setting, with great staff, quality rooms and an indoor multilayered pool. The drive up to it is nothing short of scenic; tight, winding mountain roads lead to a huge, circular building atop the mountain. Once inside you are able to look straight through the center of the entire building, more than two hundred feet higher than you already are. This evoked a feeling of awe from my already shocked mind, and the view from my hotel room was stellar! Even though it was NOT facing the Gatlinburg tourist area, I loved waking up to a view of nature and its settings. This hotel has a great variety of options including a cafe that s open at night, a separate breakfast buffet with made-to-order eggs, the aforementioned indoor pool, as well as a huge game room and a kids area that I saw!
However, a prevalent problem at the pool area was that both water slides (yes, there are two...) offered much to be desired. The first one I rode, winding around a tree, was so slow that I had to physically push myself around it to gain momentum. There were several little kids that OFTEN broke the rules on this while I was around, going in right after one another to form a chain of rule-breaking children. And the second was built inside an interesting manmade rock structure, which housed a quick S-curve to the side leading to a drop into the pool nearby. However, this slide was very painful. The turns it took threw me against the tube walls, and I even exited it backwards once! Now these probably sound like stupid complaints, hence only one star being docked, but they were the things that didn t make my stay perfect.
Overall this hotel is great for everyone, but please do yourself a favor and stay away from the two water slides. Just visit Splash Country at Dollywood if you want larger and better slides which I haven t been to yet.
