Though this was my third choice of hotel for our trip to Louisville, I had high hopes due to historic charm and a "five" star rating. I should have listened to my instincts and changed plans to go with option one or two instead. For the price of this hotel, it fell WELL below expectations and was NOT worth the money spent.
I told the staff we were staying for my husband's milestone birthday weekend. As a result, we were given a room with a view of the roof and a brick wall. It was also a corner room, so we heard the voices of through the walls of TWO other rooms. It was also on the floor of multiple event rooms, and there were constantly events going on, so there was constant foot traffic outside.
As far as bathroom amenities, there were few to speak of. We had one small bottle of each, but one was almost already empty.
The in room breakfast was not impressive and the coffee was one of the worst I've ever tasted. And yet it cost only $20 less than our very classy dinner at a nice restaurant downtown. The breakfast tray also sat outside our door for most of the day waiting to be picked up, even though we called down to confirm to leave it outside our door.
The valet parking was such a struggle that my husband wanted to park at a meter just to avoid the shitshow, wait-time, and exasperated faces of the valet staff. Save for one valet staff member who was extremely personable, helpful, organized, and there to get stuff done.
The air conditioning system was so loud that my dog jumped every time it turned on.
The redeeming points? The bed and the history and beauty of the building.
However, those two redeeming points are NOT worth the money spent on this "five" star hotel. It needs to be updated to "three" or "two". Save your money and look into other great four to five star hotels in the area.
Edit: I called the hotel to inquire why in addition to the main charge, from my original bill, which showed up on my credit card as "HILTON HOTELS", I also had a charge from Seelbach Hotel, which showed up on my credit card just as "SEELBACH LOUISVILLE HILTOLOUISVILLE KY" - I went over the two different charges which the person on the phone and they said, "Did you by chance go to the Starbucks in the hotel?" and I responded by saying, "Ohhhhh" and instead of saying, "Happens all the time" or "That can be confusing how it doesn't show up as 'starbucks' and instead simply shows up as 'Seelbach Hotel'" - The person from Seelbach mocked me by repeating, "Ohhhhhh" back at me. I'll never stay at the Seelbach ever again with this staff. I'll probably do my best to avoid any Hilton I see in the future, even if it was the cheapest and most convenient option - They are obviously not fit.
