I stay in at least one 5 star hotel in main cities worldwide every month. What happened this after noon with Peninsula New York made me wonder if it is over rated. I checked in this afternoon and the luggage was delivered to my room even before I got to the room, which was nice, the invisible and efficient delivery. Then when I was in the shower, I heard a slam of the door, for the shower room locates right in front of the entrance of the room, I could easily stare back to the front door from the shower room and found it perfectly shut. But when I stepped out of the shower I found a strange luggage at the door way right in front of the shower room, I was in a shock for I could easily easily assume that the bellman must have seen a full Monty show from the location where he left the luggage, whether he liked it or not. Who on earth would insist to enter the room when he could easily notice that the guest was in the shower? So I called the front desk stressing that what had just happened had seriously intruded my privacy and asked them to collect the luggage. Soon I received a call from the customer service manager, saying that he has heard of what happened and need to call to do the "investigation". From the way he talked made me feel that either he didn't get the point or he felt that it wasn't a big deal. He said, "I am sorry and is there anything I can do for you?" I coldly replied "not for the moment." The talk last less than 1 mins. Then I received a fruit plate with a note later at night when I returned to the room. It's really not about the compensation it's about the manner and professional training, I would really like to know, was it me or was it a cultural thing that American really have a different standard over hotel management and privacy?

Is this the standard way Peninsula deal with issues like this? I have no answer but I know even a guest staying in a low budget hotel wouldn't like this.
