A great park and one of the best zoos in New England. Deceptively large, this sprawling labyrinthine complex has plenty of exhibits, activities, rides, and paths to keep a family more than busy all day.
The layout is fantastic with winding walkable paths taking you from enclosure to enclosure through the different species.
There is a deer forest and a goat pen that encourage you to pet and interact with these animals directly.
There are also a few peacocks that roam the grounds with visitors!
I am usually disappointed by zoos being that many feel more like animal prisons. But, Southwick's feels like an educational conservatory. The enclosures are clean and roomy while an army of staff is constantly milling about taking care of their creatures.
When you're done with the Zoo hop on over to Galliford's restaurant and dine while overlooking the flamingos.
