I had my first baby over the summer at this facility. The night staff was amazing and I will give them praise. However, as soon as 7am came around, it was like a completely different place. My son was maybe an hour old and a nurse came in to help me nurse him. (He had trouble latching), after ONE attempt, she said "he just isn't hungry." Being a new mom, I have no clue. I was then moved very quickly out of the labor room and moved to the smallest recovery room. I then didn't see another nurse until that afternoon. A "lactation specialist" came in and asked if I had nursed my baby. I explained how he wouldn't latch and she again said "he will when he is hungry." My baby is now 12 hours old and hadn't eaten anything. I never saw another nurse until the shift change again. My night nurse helped me get my baby to latch and showed me how to nurse him. 7am came back around and my son was taken for his circumcision. It was about 2 hours later when I had to get up, walk to the nurse station and ask where my baby was and if he was okay. I was told yes and he would be back in my room shortly. About 30 more minutes went by and a nurse I'd never seen before wheeled my baby in said "his billy was high" and left. I had no idea what that meant. (Later found out it means bilirubin and my baby was jaundice.) My husband and I sat with our baby in our room waiting to be discharged when a girl came in to do the hearing test, while this was being done, who I'm assuming was my nurse came in and handed me a packet and said "here are your discharge papers, do you have any questions?" I don't know about you but when I have a million questions and are being out on the spot in what seemed like a rush, I said no and she left. Several downfalls happened in the next week with my baby that I feel could have been avoided if things were properly done. Like my son not being sent home with a bili level of 18 and losing weight because he had a tongue tie that was overlooked. I wish my OB traveled to Tulsa because I will not be having another baby at SMC.
