I purchased a 04 Ford F-350 that was supposedly owned by the accountant that worked there. I was assured that it had been well taken care of and that there were no issues. On the way back to Ohio, the truck was running very hot. Once home, I had the thermostat replaced and rarely used the truck until this past month. I was pulling a 3,000# trailer and it overheated again. I had the fan clutch replaced, then the water pump, another low temp thermostat, then the head gaskets, machined and mic'ed the heads, oil cooler, EGR delete, and finally when nothing else solved the problem, the radiator. That's when all the pieces of the puzzle came together. The radiator was full of Stop Leak. The previous owner obviously had the same problem and filled the radiator full of Stop Leak. This clogged the engine oil cooler and eventually got hard and partially clogged the radiator causing the engine to continuously overheat. The overheating eventually cracked the head gaskets. The previous owner had these replaced, but re-used the stretched studs and did NOT torque down the heads to OEM specs. It is very obvious I was sold someone else's problem, and you can't tell me that these issues weren't discussed with co-workers at the dealership before the decision was made to put it on the lot. The salesman was as friendly as can be while I was there, but honesty and integrity are NOT part of the game plan.
