This place is huge. Got in for free with my National Parks pass. The mountains are gorgeous, the sand dunes are worth hiking at least once, (over prepare when it comes to sun protection-- you will need it). Rent a sled from someone outside the park and sled the dunes. I highly recommend doing multiple smaller dunes over the really big ones-- landings can hurt and you can get sand in your nose and ears if you wipe out. Load up on water before you set out. Sadly, this year, Medano Creek is bone dry. Great place to camp-- Pinon Flats is well laid out. Backcountry camping is available, and you gotta see the stars at night!
