AMS Pools was the very first job I received when I was a freshman in high school back in 2015. Now, as we near 2020, I still come back to work for this company every summer. I have even worked my way from a standard lifeguard to the Area Manager for the Hamilton Mill/Suwannee/Flowery Branch Areas due to the great leadership, helpful opportunities and experience and lessons learned from staying with this company for the past five years.

First and foremost, AMS is a lifeguarding focused company. The skills that an employee learns such as CPR, First-Aid, and Rescues, if they are properly maintained and taken seriously, will go a long way in being beneficial for everyday life.

With that being said, the flexibility AMS is willing to provide in order to work within your schedule is another great benefit when working with this company. Requested days off are guaranteed if they are submitted on time. AMS and their managers understand that a majority of their employees are young high school-aged kids, who may be involved with other extracurricular activities or may take a family vacation during the summer, and are willing to work with the days you are available if you are willing to talk with the managers and request days off.

The culture around AMS is also another great valuable experience that employees can hardly find anywhere else. AMS hosts great outside work events that bring employees closer as friends and family, such as Volleyball tournaments, Lifeguard Olympic games, outings to Main Event, AMS Oscars awards, and many other events that the managers will often individually plan. Most of the big events that are hosted by the heads of AMS are paid for, such as outings to Main Event, and often include food and drinks as well as local activities. The friends that one makes while working will also last throughout all seasons, not just the summer, as most of the people working within this company are relatively the same age and are very relatable and understanding of one another.

As of the beginning of the 2020 season, AMS is raising base pay for all first-year lifeguards to $10 an hour. This is $2.75 more than when I first started with, and opportunities for working more hours than you are scheduled by taking open shifts, or switching shifts come practically daily. Along with the pledge to staff employees within 10 minutes of their school's location, a summer job with AMS offers an easy and great paying opportunity for many young adults who wish to experience the workforce, meet new people within their age group, establish potential lifelong friends, attend fun outside work events, and experience the amazing culture of AMS lifeguards.
