Review of Memphis Zoo

My family and I were visiting Memphis for the week...

My family and I were visiting Memphis for the weekend. We have a 4 year old son and I'm well into my pregnancy, so we decided to go first thing in the morning when they opened. Of course there were the obvious benefits like the cooler weather and if you didn't have prepaid tickets the lines were incredible short (especially over a holiday weekend - we went over Labor Day weekend). Tickets were well priced for the type of zoo it was. It offered a lot in the way of exhibits and amenities such as playgrounds, cafes and a large wading pool at the entrance.

I thought I would be miserable, but the park was in a older neighborhood in which we noticed the beautiful homes and mature trees as we were driving toward the zoo. There were so many shade trees that the heat didn't really bother me and the zoo had prepped for the heat (since it's of course Memphis) and had out fan with misters placed sporadically throughout.

We were there only 2 and a half hours, so we didn't eat there other than ice cream. We couldn't tell you about the prices for food. And since our son can walk without easily getting tired we didn't use the zoo's rental strollers. The wading pool was closed as we entered and left the zoo because they hadn't brought out the lifeguard and that was one thing we were disappointed in not using especially by the time we left we all had worked up a good sweat. I definitely would recommend the zoo for families and there is a conference center there for those who would like an opportunity to do an offsite venue.
