THIS REVIEW IS FOR PROMISES-WIMBERLY:
Awful. Don t ever send your loved one here! My boyfriend of 4 years struggles with alcohol and drug abuse. He has been in rehab 3 different times prior checking into Promises-Wimberly, so I do understand how the process works and how important it is to have the supportive family members involved.
First of all, I WANTED him to be there. I am the only supportive family he has. I was his emergency contact, everything. I NEVER even received a phone call from this place. I called multiple times to try to speak with his counselor, Ashley. My boyfriend was even upset about this. They continue to blame the lack of family contact to COVID-19. How does COVID prevent a counselor from calling me an updating me on his progress or even asking me my take on anything? Addicts lie and minimize. Shouldn t it be important to at least have an initial conversation to get an idea about what is going on? Had his counselor or any of the staff read his charts from his previous rehab stints, they would know that I have been nothing but a supportive person in his life.
Secondly, he was not even there for 30 days because his (top of the line PPO) insurance did not approve it. He NEVER had this issue before with BCBS. He started asking around and I got an itemized bill from the previous (top of the line) rehab he was in. Turns out Promises charged 3Xs the amount for a much shorter stay. I cant help but think this is why BCBS didn t even approve the full 30 days of treatment.
Third, my boyfriend expressed on multiple occasions that they were so short staffed, there wasn t even an RA in their room some nights. He had his cell phone almost the entire time he was in treatment. How is this okay in a rehab setting? Where is the structure? One night some kind of alarm went off and he had to go find the box to get it to turn off because there wasn t even an RA around. This is one of many chaotic incidents. In other rehab facilities he would talk about his progress, in this one he would talk about the drama going on.
Fourth, my boyfriend was given less than 24 hours notice he would need to leave because his insurance did not approve any more days. (Keep in mind this is during a pandemic.) He was given zero guidance as to where he could go. He doesn t even live in Wimberly and is currently homeless because he was kicked out of the house he was living in for drinking. The plan was for him to transition into a sober living facility in Houston. He did this completely on his own and found somewhere at ANOTHER recovery place. The counselors did absolutely nothing to help him. Once the money dried up, they did not care. He relapsed the next day and never made it into sober living.
Thank you Promises, for using up his insurance money and doing absolutely nothing to help him!
