John Norton Review of Adam Smith Texas Harley
I purchased my FIRST Harley bike at this location ...
I purchased my FIRST Harley bike at this location several months ago, ALL with my own money, I'm 18! Anyhow I went back to the dealership today 06/29/18 to purchase oil, oil filter, and O ring for the drain plug. I advised the salesman what I needed and he asked me what year my bike was. I purchased a 2016 750 Street. After advising the salesman what year my bike was he advised me that I had to use synthetic oil only in my bike! My dad as well as other friends who own Harley's all told me that synthetic oil def wasn't needed in my bike for it to run properly! A 750 Street isn't a complex machine that's for sure! Being young as well as a new Harley owner I didn't want to argue the point thinking that maybe something had changed since I purchased my bike. I already knew that the type of oil being synthetic or non synthetic was usually a personal choice, but like I say I thought maybe something had changed with my bike! Plus due to the fact the salesman repeated to me that synthetic oil had to be used, I took it that he knew more than me, BIG MISTAKE!
When I got home my dad saw the synthetic oil and he wasn't happy at all with what took place in the store! He, as well as I feel like I was duped into buying the synthetic oil because of my young age! I'm really upset that I spent $20 bucks more for something that I really didn't need. I'm in College so $20 bucks to me is probably like $200 or more to others. I don't make much money from my job and I really have to watch what I spend to be able to afford my bike as well as my College. I saved up my money for years in order to purchase this bike all on my own, and for what? To be taken advantage of by a salesman? It just makes no sense for this kind of situation to happen and especially to someone new to the Harley world!
This dealership could have very well received my business for the next 30 to 40 years. BUT, now I'll do business at another Harley location, ONE I CAN TRUST! I even called around(after the fact) to several other Harley dealership locations in the Metro area, all to advise me that synthetic oil was def a personal choice when it comes to a 750 Street! I'm upset with myself that I let this salesman do this to me, I should have known better I guess! Like I say, $20 bucks might sound like nothing to most people. But for me, $20 bucks is several days worth of food for someone who's trying to get by in life being in College. I like my Harley but really hate being taken advantage of that's for sure! An apology unfortunately doesn't suffice for how I was treated nor how I feel at this point! I won't give up on owning my Harley and paying for it all on my own. I will however give up on this dealership as this kind of garbage shouldn't be happening to anyone, much less a young person who was taking the word of a Bedford Harley Davidson salesman! Young, old, and in between. Stand firm with what you know when it comes to your bike! Don't be fooled like I was regardless if it was $20 or $2000 dollars! We all work hard for our money and we shouldn't be suckered out of it by anyone, PERIOD!!
