Meghan M Review of Southcoast Behavioral Health

If you can avoid receiving care here, or you can keep family members out of here- I strongly advise that you do so- I do this as someone with a level of experience in healthcare and mental health.
Got good insurance, well educated on your heath, can advocate for yourself, and want to be there for your mental health care? You'll probably be okay here like you would most places. But how often does that describe people in crisis???
Other the hand if your loved one is going there with insurance that has poor payouts or the kind where paperwork is involved for continuing treatment? Forget it. THEY DO NOT CARE.
For the truly ill, this place at best is a revolving door, a couple days to grab what they can for money from your insurance, and then out the door you go.... At worst they leave your loved ones unstabilized, potentially a danger to yourself or others, and possibly even worse then when they entered there.
They have nice new floors for a reason.
Your loved will not get better here. The only MD who has any care or concern there is Dr. Doyle. Unfortunately he was only a covering doctor.
Dr. Finley cares more about his tan and whitening his teeth than he does actually looking at your loved ones chart, discerning there diagnosis, and I don't know prescribing treatment that helps them instead of hurting them.
His indifference to the lives he affects is dangerous. Have bipolar? Be careful they'll slap on an antidepressant and send you out the door at risk for mania and deeper depression. Antidepressant monotheray is known to pose serious risks to people with Bipolar. I imagine that maybe if he cared to even be bothered to read a chart, he might remember the risks from medical school. But that is assuming he even cares which he clearly does not.
Dr. Rader is contemptuous but at least he cares a little more than Dr. Finley once he gets past the fact that you care about your love one and know a little thing or two but don't expect much with him either.
I think they are too used to pushing around patients who because of their condition may not have the tools to advocate for themselves- what a shame. Mental Health will never get better with doctors like these at the wheel.
I hope for the millions of people plagued by mental health that we one day have a system that truly cares for and advocates for them, instead of the dangerous constructs like SouthCoast that exist today.
Beware of this place.
