Tema Development Company is an independent company set out by the government, the first president of the land, DR. KWAME NKRUMAH to manage all the lands in Tema which were all government acquisitions.
All lands in Tema and within were acquired by government from the chiefs and families, then government had to manage the lands by forming T. D. C. Which is also the oldest government institution in Tema.

T. D. C which is older than the Tema Metropolitan Assembly also operates independently from it.

Whiles T. M. A focuses on tax collection, management, building plans, building permits and other stuffs.
The T. D. C mainly focuses on management of the land.

Before one can be entitle to acquire ownership on a particular land, one has to have a consent from the T. D. C before proceeding to the land registry department of the lands commission.
