Take the kids and help them learn their heritage (In most cases)! Many kids (sadly not as many as there should be) are aware that the pilgrims were the first settlers to come from England. But probably over 90% haven't a clue where Plimoth Rock or who Squanto is... Which is awful.
It was like stepping back in time into the 1700s. It was eye-opening not only myself and my wife but more importantly for my children, to see the way that the early settlers lived compared to the Native Americans that were already there. Learning each from each side story; how to grow corn to make bread, why they moved in the first place, how long of a was it from the Dutchland, etc. I was very impressed with the quality and the heat retention provided by the winter houses of the Wampanoag. I prefer them to the settlers cottages after seeing both! Lol. After your trip back in time is over, enjoy some of the native foods such as butternut squash, turkey succotash and apple crumble. This was very unique and surprisingly good.
It is definitely worth going at least once, and your kids will not forget it... and they might even learn something while they're there.
