Went to NUH A&E on a Saturday rainy evening with low expectations, as have encountered long waiting times before. I had UTI symptoms and from past occurances, have been told before by GP to visit a doctor once the symptoms develop. It was surprisingly not as crowded and took an hour from registration to collecting medication and payment. Nurse who checked me at triage was also patient and nice.

However it all went down the drain during the consultation. Dr Nieh rattled off quickly in an impatient tone that the results from the urine analysis confirms UTI, that it is a very common condition and that I can visit GP or polyclinic for this, implying that I don t need to go to an A&E to get diagnosed. It s just disgusting how he simply dismissed and trivialized my condition. It was Saturday evening at 9pm where polyclinics and GPs around my residential area are closed. You think I want to splurge $140 for A&E charges for what he called a not so serious and common condition? Anyone who had UTI before would know the immense pelvic pain and discomfort. And it is a bloody infection that if not treated early can lead to more serious problems with the kidney.

I would have given this a 5 star experience if the doc had shown more empathy and concern.
