Joanna Echeto Review of Old No. 77 Hotel and Chandlery
We stayed at the Ambassador hotel Monday January 2...
We stayed at the Ambassador hotel Monday January 20th to Thursday January 23rd. We had a similar experience to the previous review and agree that we will never stay there again and recommend no one else makes the same mistake. We were so outraged by our experience that we purchased a timeshare to ensure our future vacations will have a better quality to them.
We drove to New Orleans and were unexpectedly extremely early. Understandably we were unable to check in to the hotel at 8am so we used the valet services to store our luggage and car. The unfriendly woman at the front desk told us that the rooms would be ready at 2pm. After walking around for hours we made our way back to the hotel around 1pm with the idea that there had to be at least one available room if check out was at 11am and check in was at 2pm. To our astonishment the same front desk woman was unable to find an available room. We asked if there was a place we could wait and she told us the conference room. For over two hours we napped sitting up and/or hunched over on the conference room tables. Oh and that same conference room hosts the worst continental breakfast I ve ever experienced.
Finally after a shift change we asked the front desk for our room. She was the only friendly, helpful and kind person who helped us for the entire stay, except for Russel the valet. Every time we walked in and out of that hotel she looked at us with a smile on her face and said something nice. Unfortunately I cannot remember her name, a young black female. I also think that part of the rude treatment we received was because we are an interracial couple which made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
When we opened the door to our room our hearts sank as well. We entered into a dungeon, Room 185, with the tiniest window with a view of three brick walls. We found an ice bucket full of last night s beverages then food and candy wrappers on the floor. We decided to make due after an exhausting day and spent the night. After napping on an uncomfortable bed with cheap linens we took showers and noticed hair all over its walls and the under the sink s counter. Later on that evening we told the friendly front desk woman that the room was unacceptable and would be asking for a room change the following morning. She said not a problem.
The next morning we were moved to a better room that resembled the websites pictures but yet still lacked in cleanliness and needed repair. The funny thing was that the unfriendly female who couldn t find us a room for hours the day before was now giving us a Trip Advisor business card with her name on it to review the hotel. Really Lady, after yesterday you want us to praise your lack of hospitality, I think not. The only positive thing I can say about the Ambassador is that it s in a good location, close to Harrah s and the French Quarter.
