I am going into my third season at AMS and it has been the best first job anyone could ask for. Don t listen to the one star reviews, you won t find any other company able to provide 15 year olds $10.00 per hour STARTING pay, a job within 10 minutes from home, flexible and fair days off, and a job where you get to work at a swimming pool.
Not to mention there are great promotional opportunities. If you work hard, pick up shifts, and make yourself stand out to your managers you will have no problem getting promoted to head guard within your first year (if your 16). It looks great on a resume or a college application.
To the people on these reviews that complain about not getting hours, obviously the more experienced lifeguards are going to get more hours than you, as with any job. If you want more hours, there is an area wide group chat where there is at least one person asking for someone to take their shift everyday. Or you could ask your area manager and they will send you open shifts. If you want hours, you will find them.
I worked over 400 hours last season.
AMS gives you any days off you ask for one month in advance and if something comes up, you usually won t have problems switching shifts with another guard.
Working for AMS has been an amazing job that I ve made lasting friendships in and I ve learned valuable leadership skills from. I couldn t imagine working for anybody else, if you are looking for a job and you want to make money and meet lots of cool people, AMS is a great place to work.
